2010-2011 MARINES' MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Marines’ Memorial Association will award 24 scholarships for the academic year beginning in August 2010. All eligible members, children
or grandchildren of members are invited to apply. Please spread the word. Click on the following categories of scholarships for details:

I. BECHTEL ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP - $5,000 (7 Awards) 

II. SERGEANTS ROSE SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (6 Awards)

III. COLONEL RICHARD HALLOCK SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (2 Awards)

IV. TSGT EVELYN B. HAMILTON SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (1 Award)

• The above categories are limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. Scholarships are not automatically renewable.
Scholarship recipients must reapply each year and are limited to a total of four awards.

We will accept only one application per applicant. Completed appli cations must be postmarked no later than 30 April 2010.

MMA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CATEGORIES:


I. BECHTEL ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP - $5,000 (7 Awards)

Our program will award seven (7) Bechtel Engineering and Science Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to our Members’ eligible children
or grandchildren who are either graduating high school seniors or are enrolled in institutions of higher education.. Five thousand dollars is the largest
amount given for any of our scholarships. The S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation is funding these scholarships to make the study of science, technology,
engineering and math more attractive. Bechtel Engineering and Construction, the largest engineering and construction company in the United States,
has a history of significant engineering and construction achievements, including the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, the Channel Tunnel between
England and France, BART in the Bay Area, the Washington, DC Metro, and the rebuilding of the London Underground. Due Date: 30 April 2010 

About the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation 

The S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation has made this Engineering and Science Scholarship possible to encourage qualified students to major in Engineering
or one of the Sciences. The head of the Foundation is Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. who is a Marine Veteran and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant
after he graduated from college with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1946. In his professional life, he worked for Bechtel Corporation, a company
known for building such signature projects as the Hoover Dam, the Channel Tunnel between England and France, the Hong Kong Airport, the
Washington Metro, and the Bay Area Rapid Transit System. Bechtel takes pride in delivering projects with integrity, respect, innovation and a
world-class safety program. (See more about Bechtel at www.Bechtel.com). Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. served as President and CEO of Bechtel
Corporation for more than 25 years, during the time when the Company grew to become the nation’s largest engineering and construction
company. He currently serves as Chairman Emeritus. 

Eligibility Requirement for the Bechtel Scholarship 

1. The Bechtel Engineering and Science Scholarship is awarded for school year 2010/2011

2. Current scholarship recipients must re-apply each year and are limited to a maximum of four (4) awards 

3. The scholarship is open only to Members of the Marines’ Memorial Association, Member dependents or Grandchildren of Members 

4. To be eligible for a Bechtel Engineering and Science scholarship, applicants must plan to attend an engineering program that is
accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET-EAC).
Please visit the ABET web site at www.abet.org for a listing of qualified engineering programs. 

5. The recipient must be majoring in or applying to major in Engineering or one of the Sciences to qualify for this scholarship. 

6. The scholarship is opened to graduating High School seniors or current students who are attending a qualified institution of
higher education during the school year 2010/2011

7. The scholarship is limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. 

8. Recipients must register and maintain status as a full-time student. 

9. Applications must be completed with all required attachments and mailed to the Marines’ Memorial Association Scholarship
Selection Committee with a postmark not later than 30 April 2010.

How To Apply for Bechtel Scholarship

Assemble the application package in the following order: 

• Complete the application form. 

• Signature on the last page of the application 

• For graduating High School seniors, please included a copy of your High School Transcript. 

• For graduating High School seniors, please include a copy of your SAT and/or ACT scores. 

• For returning University/College students, please include a copy of your current University/College transcript. 

• Attach your typewritten 250-500 word essay 

• Identify 3 Confidential References. Completed forms should be sent to Marines' Memorial Association, 609 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.  

The application package should be postmarked no later than 30 April 2010 . The complete package will become the property of the
Marines' Memorial Association and no cost associated with the application will be reimbursed to the student. Incomplete packages will NOT be accepted.

II. SERGEANTS ROSE SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (8 Awards)

This year, the Board will award eight (8) Sergeants Henry and Jeanne Rose Scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. The Sergeants Henry
and Jeanne Rose Scholarship is awarded in the name of two Marine Sergeants who left their entire estate to the MMA.  Due Date: 30 April 2010 .

Eligibility Requirements for the Sergeants Rose Scholarship 

1. The Sgt. Henry Holly Rose and Sgt. Jeanne Marie Rose scholarship is awarded for school year 2010/2011 

2. Current scholarship recipients must re-apply each year and are limited to a maximum of four (4) awards 

3. The scholarship is open only to Members of the Marines’ Memorial Association, Member dependents or Grandchildren of Members 

4. The scholarship is opened to graduating High School seniors or current students who are attending an institution of higher education during the
school year 2009/2010 

5. The scholarship is limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. 

6. Recipients must register and maintain status as a full-time student.

III. COLONEL RICHARD HALLOCK SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (2 Awards)

The Colonel Richard Hallock Scholarship is in honor of Army Colonel Richard Hallock USA (Ret.). Colonel Hallock was very proud of his MMA
membership and his wife, Mrs. Hallock, continues her membership today. We will award two (2) Colonel Richard Hallock Scholarships in the amount
of $2,500 each.

 Due Date: 30 April 2010.

Eligibility Requirements for the Colonel Hallock Scholarship 

1. The Colonel Hallock scholarship is awarded for school year 2010/2011 

2. Current scholarship recipients must re-apply each year and are limited to a maximum of four (4) awards 

3. The scholarship is open only to Members of the Marines’ Memorial Association, Member dependents or Grandchildren of Members 

4. The scholarship is opened to graduating High School seniors or current students who are attending an institution of higher education during the
school year 2009/2010

IV. TSGT EVELYN BUKOVAC HAMILTON HEALTH CARE SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (1 Award)

Evelyn Bukovac Scholarship is named after Marine Evelyn Bukovac who served in the Marine Corps shortly after World War II and then, again,
during the Korean War. Ms. Hamilton left her estate to the Marines’ Memorial Association and the scholarship in her name is for $2,500 to our
Members’ eligible children or grandchildren who are either graduating high school seniors or are enrolled in institutions of higher education studying
fields related to health care. Due Date: 30 April 2010.

Eligibility Requirements for the Evelyn B. Hamilton Scholarship

1. The Colonel Hallock scholarship is awarded for school year 2010/2011 

2. Current scholarship recipients must re-apply each year and are limited to a maximum of four (4) awards 

3. The scholarship is open only to Members of the Marines’ Memorial Association, Member dependents or Grandchildren of Members 

4. The scholarship is opened to graduating High School seniors or current students who are attending an institution of higher education during the
school year 2009/2010

V. MARINES' MEMORIAL TRIBUTE SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500 (2 Awards)

The Marines’ Memorial Tribute Scholarship category is designed to aid military personnel leaving full time service and entering an undergraduate
college program. All military personnel who have transitioned from active duty to reserve or civilian status within the last three years are eligible to apply.
We will award two (2) Marines’ Memorial Tribute Scholarships this year in the amount of $2,500 each. Due Date: 30 April 2009

1. The Marines' Memorial Tribute scholarship is awarded for school year 2009/2010 

2. The scholarship is open only to Members, with an active member standing, of the Marines’ Memorial Association. 

3. Applicants must have transitioned from active duty to reserve or civilian status within the last three years. 

4. The scholarship is open to reserve or former military personnel who are entering or already enrolled in an undergraduate college program during
the school year 2009/2010 

5. The scholarship is limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. 

6. Recipients must register and maintain status as a full-time student. 

7. Applications must be completed with all required attachments and mailed to the Marines’ Memorial Association Scholarship Selection Committee
with a postmark not later than 30 April 2009

How to Apply for the MMA Tribute Scholarship

Assemble the application package in the following order:

• Complete the application form.

• Please included a copy of your High School Transcript. 

• For returning University/College students, please include a copy of your current University/College transcript.

COLONEL JACK BARNES SCHOLARSHIP - range from $1,000 to $2,500 (4 Awards)

Colonel Jack Barnes Scholarships based on a grant Colonel Barnes made to the Marines’ Memorial Association. The Association transferred this grant to the
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation in 2002. Each year, four (4) scholarships are awarded to Marine Members or deserving sons and daughters of
MMA Members who are US Marines; and to deserving sons and daughters of Members who have served as US Navy Corpsmen with the US Marine Corps.
The scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500, depending on the need of the applicant.

• Barnes scholarships are limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions. Scholarships are not automatically renewable.
Current scholarship recipients must reapply each year and are limited to a total of four awards. Children of Marines or Corpsmen who are not selected for scholarships sponsored by the MMA will automatically be considered for general scholarships administered by the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. 

• Applications for Academic Year 2009-2010 will be available at www.marine-scholars.org/ beginning in January 2010.
