The United States' first major offensive action of World War II began for possession of an obscure island of Guadalcanal, a 2,510 square mile island in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean . The battle lasted for six months between August 1942 and February 1943 as the United States fought a brutally hard air-sea-land campaign against the Japanese for possession.  Join Guadalcanal Veterans  in commemorating the anniversary of what history now says was the most important battle in the Pacific in the entire War.
