Theaters in the San Francisco Theater District

Marines Memorial Theatre

Located onsite at the Marines Memorial Club, this 646-seat theatre hosts inspiring speakers, presentations, performances and celebrations throughout the year. Opened in 1926, the theatre has seen a number of legendary performers including Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Lynn Redgrave and more.


Geary Theatre

Opened on January 10, 1910, the Geary Theatre is one of the oldest theaters in the country. Currently home to the American Conservatory Theater, the Geary Theater hosts performances throughout the year. Theater buffs won’t want to miss this incredible piece of San Francisco history.


Orpheum Theatre

First opened in 1926 by B. Marcus Priteca, the Orpheum’s interior features a vaulted ceiling patterned after a 12th century French cathedral. The theatre has hosted a number of Broadway shows, including the musical Wicked.


Lamplighters Music Theatre

Lamplighters Music Theatre was founded in 1952 to produce the comic operas of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Since that time, the theatre has produced the entire Gilbert & Sullivan canon as well as other light opera and musical theatre classics. The Lamplighters are now recognized as one of the top Gilbert and Sullivan companies in the world.


Golden Gate Theatre

First opened in 1922 as a vaudeville venue, the Golden Gate Theatre spent a brief period in the 1960s as a major movie theater, but was returned to a performing arts venue in the late 1970s. The Golden Gate Theatre has brought many Broadway shows to San Francisco, including A Chorus Line, Sweeny Todd, Stomp, Hairspray, Chicago, and Rent.


Curran Theatre

Known as the Official Site of Broadway in San Francisco, this intimate theatre has been home to several famous shows, including The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, A Chorus Line, Spring Awakening, and Dreamgirls.
